He showed at a very early age a high level of interest towards music, and started to play the violin at the age of 5. He was 12 when he turned to the guitar, and was admitted two years later in the Conservatoire National de Région in Versailles. After graduating with honors in 2003, he studied with the French guitar virtuoso Judicael Perroy. In 2006, he moved to Vienna (Austria) to study under the guidance of Brigitte Zaczek at the University for Music and Performing Arts, from which he holds a Master of arts. In May 2011, he took the first place in a competition for all string instruments organized by the University. He has been awarded prizes in over 10 international competitions, among which the Guitar Forum competition in Vienna, the Guitar Foundation of America concert artist competition, and has won the 1st Prize of the prestigious Heinsberg International Guitar Competition in 2013. Between recitals and concerts as a soloist with orchestra, Damien Lancelle dedicates himself actively to arrangement and chamber music with the ensemble Spirituosi.He performed in march 2015 the premiere of Feuilles d’Album, an original work for 8-string guitar written for him by the american composer Mark Delpriora.
