Petar Čulić - Zagreb Guitar Festival

Petar Čulić was born on June 26, 1986 in Split. He received his master’s degree in July 2008 from the Art Academy of the University of Split in the class of prof. Goran Listeš. He enrolled in the “especially gifted” quota before graduating from high school. He was awarded two Rector’s awards in the 2005/2006 academic year for outstanding results achieved during his studies and for exceptional artistic achievements. He continued his education at postgraduate study in Koblenz (Germany) at the private “Koblenz International Guitar Academy” in the class of prof. Hubert Käppel and completed it in May 2010 with the best grades. He is the recipient of the annual award of the Municipality of Dugi Rat for outstanding achievements in the field of music and cultural creativity. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at the prestigious University of Surrey (England) under professor Stephen Goss.

He has had more than one thousand performances on 6 continents in more than 30 countries in centers such as Sydney, Buenos Aires, Washington, Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, Bogota, London,
Vienna, Paris, Perth, Brussels, Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Cali, Curitibe, Rome, Athens. At national competitions he won five first prizes as a soloist and three first prizes as a member of chamber ensembles. He has won numerous awards at international competitions in Gevelsberg, Volos, Velbert, Weimar, Kutna Hora and other cities. He is the winner of the Young Musicians’ Concert Cycle Vinko Lesić 2013/2014.

He has played as a soloist with the Rheinische Philharmonie, the Claudio Santoro National Theater Symphony in Brasilia, the Mozart Orchestra, the Curitibe Chamber Orchestra, the Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra, the Croatian Music Youth Chamber Orchestra, the CNC Split Orchestra and others. He held a guitar recital in the lobby of the Croatian National Theater in Split on May 16, 2005, promoting his first sound carrier. In 2012, he recorded a soundtrack with the vocal ensemble Cantores Maruli, the late actor Zlatko Crnković and the poet Marin Čapali as part of the project “The Story of Marko Marulić”, as a musical-stage story about the life and work of Marko Marulić. In November 2014, he released his second solo CD with 12 original compositions (published by Menart), and the promotion took place at the Croatian Music Institute in Zagreb on November 13, 2014.

He participated as an active participant in master classes led by Pepe Romero, Darko Petrinjak, Lorenzo Micheli, Fabio Zanon, Judicael Perroy, Zoran Dukić, Marcin Dylla, William Kanengiser, Scott Tennant, John Dearman, Matthew Greif, Pavel Steidl, Aniello Desiderio. Carlo Marchione, Tilman Hoppstock, Costas Cotsiolis, Marco Tamayo, Denis Azabagić, Ana Vidović, Alexis Muzurakis and many others. French composer Colette Mourey composed three pieces for solo guitar as Hommage ä by Petar Čulić (Sonata Appassionata, Toccatina Barbaresca, Variations Sérieuses). From the very beginning of his guitar education he has been involved in composing, and he found his first inspiration for composing in the book “The Little Prince” by the writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
